Fourteen people, neurotic and alienated in their relationship with work and with the outside world, decide to leave Earth and inhuman oppression and set off for the planet-O Dalmak. Ben Tallchief, after a lifetime of failure, seems to open a future of euphoric communion with others is so even for Seth Morley, dissatisfied with his job as a hydrologist of kibbutz Upharsin Tekel. But suddenly the communications satellite is destroyed and fourteen humans find themselves alone on a hostile alien planet and, in a crescendo of mystery, terror and death.
